Hoary Puccoon

The Hoary puccoon is an early-blooming plant with distinctive yellow –orange petals. Its colour and unique long tube, where the nectar is located, attracts a specific type of insect. That is, an insect with a long proboscis or mouthpiece is needed to pollinate this flower. At this point in time, it is unknown what pollinates the Hoary puccoon, but one possibility is the mosquito, and Dr. Robson hopes her work at the Living Prairie Museum will enable her to find the answer.
