Dwarf Milkweed

Milkweed is found throughout the prairie. This plant's distribution benefits from the open spaces and strong winds when its hundreds of seeds are released from its dry seedpods. Although milkweed is problematic to farmers, who consider it an invasive and unwanted plant, it is a vital part of the prairie ecosystem and is integral to the survival of the monarch butterfly.
