Hoop Dance

The Lakota believe that the hoop dance originates from the medicine man. Unable to express his emotions, dreams or visions in words, he took to dancing. Willow tree branches are used to create hoops that interconnect. When the medicine man had a vision, the hoops were used in dance to recreate the images that is, by creating the different shapes of things, including animals and flowers.
