Sage

Sage is one of the four sacred plants to Native communities due to its healing properties. Used to cleanse at the beginning of ceremonies, it is also commonly used topically for stomach, throat and genital ailments or to keep insects at bay, by rubbing it on the skin. Sage is silver in colour with many small hairs on its leaves. Silver foliage reflects the hot drying sun and the hairs attract moisture such as dew and rain. The hairs also protect the plant from killing frosts and abrupt temperature changes in the spring and fall.
